How much does Linux support cost?

Package and repository fixes from £39. Other work has its own starting price: service and permission problems, remote access, installation and Docker setups are different scopes. Tell us what is failing and what a successful repair would look like so we can confirm the work and price.

A symptom is a useful starting point

Tell us what you expected, what happened instead and when the problem began. A short exact error message is often more useful than a long description of everything installed on the machine. Mention recent updates, configuration changes or a move to a new server.

One symptom may involve several parts of the system. A failed application could involve its service configuration, permissions, disk space or a dependency. The starting prices below describe focused work; they are not a promise to rebuild an unknown environment for one fixed fee.

Agree the end point before the repair

A useful scope names the affected machine or service, the behaviour to restore and the check that will demonstrate success. For example, an agreed service starts correctly after a restart and is reachable by the intended user.

If initial investigation shows a wider migration, unsupported dependency or application defect, the scope should be reconsidered before expanding the work. Identify any maintenance window and recovery access before changes to a business server.

One-off help or ongoing care?

Choose a one-off repair when there is a specific fault or setup task. Ongoing maintenance is more suitable when the same server needs regular updates, backup checks and an identified person to handle routine issues.

Ubuntu documents its package-management tools and supported update procedures. The correct repair still depends on the installed release and repository configuration, so include those details if you have them.

Is this the right fit?

A good fit when

  • A Linux desktop or server has a clear fault, access problem or setup task.
  • You can identify the affected system and authorise work on it.

Limits of the scope

  • A focused repair is not a full server rebuild, application rewrite or ongoing support arrangement.
  • Major migrations, unknown environments and multiple unrelated problems need a separate scope.

What to prepare for an enquiry

  • Distribution and version, whether it is a desktop or server, and what it is used for.
  • The exact error and recent changes, with secrets and personal information removed.
  • Business impact, any existing backup, and whether the machine has an alternative recovery console.

Start with a description and non-sensitive examples. Leave out passwords, API keys, private keys, recovery codes and customer data. Access arrangements are agreed separately if the work needs them.

Common questions

Can you help remotely?

Remote Linux support is available. The task must be suitable for remote access, and an agreed connection method and authorisation are needed before work begins.

Do I need a monthly plan for a single problem?

No. A specific repair can be quoted as one-off work. A maintenance arrangement is a separate choice for continuing care.

Should I paste the whole log into the enquiry?

Start with the relevant error and context. Remove passwords, tokens, private keys and customer information; larger logs can be discussed after the scope is understood.

Discuss a clear next step

Describe the fault, your Linux version and the result you need. We confirm scope and price before work begins.
